Beloved Mentor, Guide, Poet

Fish-Canada-geese-1024x407

In Memoriam: Mary Oliver (September 10, 1935 – January 17, 2019)

She stamped her voice on the cry of the wild geese

and now her words come back to guide me

whenever their call spirals heavenward

or wild wings clap the air above my head

strong and steady as the heart of a the poet who fed us

on beauty, transforming tree, twig, leaf and lichen

into a steady stream of nourishment, sustaining

our souls, bolstering us for the journey

out of bondage into freedom every one wild

and precious life is called to undertake.
